LA PLUME, Pa. – The No. 3 seeded Cedar Crest College field hockey team fell to second-seeded Keystone College in a 7-0 final on Wednesday afternoon in the Colonial States Athletic Conference Tournament Semifinals.
The Giants put one goal home in the opening quarter on a marker from junior Jordan Vandermark (Hackettstown, N.J.) in the eighth minute. Junior Vicky Mainero (Francisco Alvarez, Buenos Aires, Argentina) was credited with the assist.
Mainero went on to score the next four goals for Keystone. She deposited two in the second and another pair in the third quarter to push the score to 5-0.
The Giants tallied two more in the fourth quarter for the 7-0 final. First-year Maria Belen Rodriguez (Caballito, Buenos Aires, Argentina) found the back of the cage off an assist from Vandermark in the 47
th minute and then Belen Rodriguez set up senior Mercedes Goodwin (Honesdale, Pa.) for a marker in the final minute.
Junior Casey Stratton (Ellicott City, Md.) recorded the win in goal for Keystone. First-year
Kendall Heiney (Slatington, Pa./Northern Lehigh) fished with six saves in the loss.
The Giants held a 24-3 advantage in shots and had 10 penalty corners to the Falcons' six.
Cedar Crest (8-9 overall) have declared for the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Field Hockey Championships and will await its matchup, which will take place on Wednesday, November 9.
