LANGHORNE, Pa. – In a rematch of the last two title matches, the Cedar Crest College tennis team was defeated by Cairn University in the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) Championship match, 5-0, on Saturday afternoon at the McCurdy Tennis Facility.
The afternoon got started with doubles play. Third doubles was the first to finish with freshman Brittany Schultz (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty ) and sophomore Sam Henson (Waterbury, Conn./W.F. Keynor Technical) dropping their match, 8-0. First doubles followed with senior Maya Narasimhan (Scotch Plains, N.J./Scotch Plains Fanwood) and sophomore Katherine Franzone () falling to the Highlander pair of junior Paige Kemper (Lancaster, Pa.) and sophomore Brianna Miller (Delta, Pa.), 8-2. The Highlanders completed the sweep when freshman Ersy Neal (Wayne, Pa.) and senior Sarah Jackson (Milltown, N.J.) topped the Falcon second doubles tandem of junior Sasha Singh (Breinigsville, Pa./Parkland) and sophomore Lily Spagnola (Barnegat, N.J./Barnegat) in an 8-2 final.
The teams had singles in action, but the Highlanders only needed two more wins to secure the victory. Sophomore Abby Horning (St. Adamstown, Pa.) defeated Schultz at No. 6 (6-0, 6-0) while sophomore Rachel Campbell-Robinson (Richmond, Va.) took down Henson at No. 5 (6-0, 6-0) to close out the match.
Cedar Crest ends their season with an 8-6 overall record.
