DOYLESTOWN, Pa. – The Cedar Crest College field hockey team lost to Delaware Valley University in a 4-1 final on Saturday afternoon at Lipinski Field.
After a scoreless first quarter, the Aggies got on the board in the 19
th minute as junior Ashley Birmingham (Reading, Pa.) netted the first goal of the contest off an assist from graduate student Sadie Strober (Stockton, N.J.). The home team tacked on another in the 24
th minute on a marker from junior Sydney Keagle (Catonsville, Md.) to make it 2-0.
The Falcons cut the deficit to one (2-1) on a tally from senior
Kiley Marone (Mohrsville, Pa. /Tulpehocken) in the 28th, marking her second goal of the season.
Delaware Valley padded its lead in the 34
th minute on a goal by first-year Olivia Rexrode (Harrington, Del.) while the assist went to Keagle. The Aggies netted an insurance marker in the 55
th minute on a penalty stroke goal from Birmingham.
Junior Alyssa Rudd (Belvidere, N.J.) was credited with the win in goal, making three saves. Junior
Brynn Rifino (Dover, Del./Smyrna) converted four stops in the loss.
Delaware Valley had a 15-6 advantage in shots and had 12 penalty corners to the Falcons' 10.
Cedar Crest (1-4 overall) closes a season-long, four-game road trip on Thursday, September 22 at King's College (Pa.) slated for a 7:00 p.m. start.
