Wilson Sets Career Three-Point Program Record in Basketball's Loss to Saint Elizabeth

MORRISTOWN, N.J. – With five three-pointers made, senior Ashley Wilson (Norwalk, Conn./Norwalk) became the program record holder for three-pointers made in a career with 127 as the Cedar Crest College basketball team fell to Saint Elizabeth University, 70-48, in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action on Saturday afternoon at St. Joseph's Hall.

The Eagles got out to a hot start, outscoring the Falcons 16-4 over the opening 5:48. Saint Elizabeth then finished the quarter on a 10-3 run to carry a 26-7 advantage at the end of one.

The Eagles built as large as a 26-point margin in the second quarter, but the Falcons closed it to within 21 heading into the third stanza. Wilson had nine points in the frame to pace Cedar Crest as the Falcons were down 43-22 at the break.

Cedar Crest cut the deficit to 15 in the third quarter after a triple from Wilson to make the score 45-30 with 5:14 to play, but a 9-0 spurt to close would send Saint Elizabeth into the final quarter with a 54-30 advantage.

The Eagles only saw its lead dip below 20 just once in the final quarter as Saint Elizabeth went onto capture the contest by the 70-48 final.

Senior Alani Jones (Newark, N.J.) guided four student-athletes in double figure scoring for the Eagles. She had 15 points to go along with three rebounds. First-year Taylor Liriano (Bergenfield, N.J.) added 14 points on 5-for-7 shooting, including 4-for-6 from distance. Sophomore Destiny Battle (East Orange, N.J.) registered a triple-double of 13 points, 10 rebounds, 10 assists, and added nine steals. Sophomore Kolby Lynch (Morristown, N.J.) was the last Saint Elizabeth student-athlete with double-digit points, collecting 12 points, four boards, three assists, and three steals.

Wilson paced the Falcons with a season-high 31 points on 10-for-26 shooting, including a season-high five triples, which gave her the program record for three-pointers made in a career. The senior also recorded seven rebounds, two assists, two blocks, and four steals. Sophomore Rachel Bilger (Philadelphia, Pa./Upper Dublin) pitched in nine points, six caroms, two assists, one steal, and one block. First-year Bella Bozen (Lockport, Ill./Lockport Township) contributed six points and three rebounds off the bench while junior Morgan Ritchie (New Tripoli, Pa./Northwestern Lehigh) added two points to close out the scoring.

Cedar Crest (0-7 overall, 0-5 CSAC) returns to the floor on Wednesday, January 11 in a home game against Bryn Athyn College at 7:00 p.m. Saint Elizabeth (6-6 overall, 4-2 CSAC) travels to Wilson College for a 7:00 p.m. tip on Wednesday for its next tilt.
