Hinkle's Fourth Quarter Tally Pushes Field Hockey Past Wilson; Clinches No. 2 Seed for United East Tournament

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. – The Cedar Crest College field hockey team edged Wilson College in a 1-0 final in the regular season finale in United East Conference action on Saturday afternoon.

"This was a total team effort with the right mindset, playing for each other, supporting each other from the field and the bench, and focusing on what we can control in a game," said Head Field Hockey Coach Joan Johnson. "We look forward to being at home at the FalconPlex Wednesday night as this team secured the first-ever home playoff game in program history. I am one very proud coach!"

The first three quarters were scoreless and then the Falcons broke the tie in the fourth quarter. Senior Adriana Hinkle (Palmerton, Pa./Homeschooled (played for Lehighton)) scored a penalty stroke in the 52nd minute to put Cedar Crest in front, 1-0. The score stood as the Falcons came away with its first win over the Phoenix since 2019.

Wilson held an 18-5 advantage in shots and had 14 penalty corners to Cedar Crest's two. Hinkle led the Falcons with four shots, with three being on goal, while senior Mira Carver (Lebanon, N.J./North Hunterdon) tallied the other shot for the Falcons.

First-year Kadee Schrader (Northampton, Pa./Northampton Area) recorded the win in goal for Cedar Crest, making 12 saves in 45 minutes. Junior Brynn Rifino (Dover, Del./Smyrna) played 15 minutes in goal for the Falcons and made one save. Wilson senior goalkeeper Allyson Shindler (Manchester, Pa.) converted two saves in the loss for the Phoenix.

With the win, Cedar Crest (5-12, 2-1 United East) clinched the No. 2 seed for the United East Conference Championship Tournament and will host third-seeded Wilson in a rematch on Wednesday, November 1 at 7:00 p.m. in a semifinal matchup.
