ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The Cedar Crest College soccer team rolled to a 7-0 win over the University of Valley Forge in a United East Conference-Skye Division match on Saturday afternoon at the FalconPlex.
The Falcons scored twice in the first half and added five more in the second in route to the win.
Cedar Crest got on the scoreboard in the 31
st minute on a marker from junior
Abril Riley (Levittown, Pa./Harry S. Truman) on a free kick that went up and over Patriots' first-year goalkeeper Abigail Wood (Lenhartsville, Pa.) to give the Falcons a 1-0 lead.
The home team tacked on another in the 43
rd minute after junior
Kayla Reiter (Emmaus, Pa./Northwestern Lehigh) found the back of the net off an assist from first-year
Avery Kramer (Blandon, Pa./Fleetwood Area) to make a 2-0 contest at halftime.
Cedar Crest's offense added five goals in the second half, starting off with a finish from sophomore
Lauren Davis (Oley, Pa./Oley Valley) in the 69
th minute. The helper went to Kramer as the margin stretched to three, 3-0.
Junior
Linsey Nester (Mohrsville, Pa./Hamburg) netted the next pair of goals, with assists on both goals going to classmate
Madison Balliet (Palmerton, Pa./Palmerton Area) to grow the lead to 5-0.
Senior
Olivia Kelly (Medford, N.J./Shawnee) registered the next tally for the Falcons as she buried a penalty shot in the 82
nd minute while sophomore
Brielle Davies (Catasauqua, Pa./Catasauqua) closed the scoring with a marker in the 87
th minute for the 7-0 triumph.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Bella Bozen (Lockport, Ill./Lockport Township) was credited with the win for Cedar Crest. She did not face a shot in 45 minutes of action. First-year
Stephanie Macaluso (Kendall Park, N.J./South Brunswick) played the final 45 minutes and did not face a shot as well. Wood converted 22 saves for Valley Forge.
The Falcons dominated the shot category, 52-0, putting 30 of them on goal. Cedar Crest also had 12 corner kicks to the Patriots' one.
Cedar Crest (2-3-4 overall, 2-0-2 United East Conference-Skye Division) will stay home to square off against Bryn Athyn College on Tuesday, October 10 at 7:00 p.m. The University of Valley Forge (0-8-0 overall, 0-4-0 United East Conference-Skye Division) travels to Keystone College for its next match on Tuesday at 4:00 p.m.
