SOUTH ABINGTON, Pa. – The third-seeded Cedar Crest College tennis team was defeated by No. 2 seed Clarks Summit University in a 5-2 final in the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) Tournament semifinals on Friday afternoon at the Birchwood Tennis Club.
The Lady Defenders held a 2-1 lead after doubles play. The No. 2 doubles pair of sophomore Naomi Sadowitz (Miyakonojo, Japan) and senior Katie McKee (Buffalo, N.Y.) edged the Falcons' pair of senior
Taylor Wolf (Townsend, Del./Middletown) and first-year
Katie Browning (Orefield, Pa./Northwestern Lehigh), 8-7 (5-0). Clarks Summit earned its second point after senior Lydia DeLong (Lake Orion, Mich.) and junior Natasha Karp (Hidden Valley Lake, Calif.) got by the Cedar Crest tandem of junior
Megan Fiedler (Woodbridge, Va./Woodbridge Senior) and sophomore
Corinne O'Connor (Bay Shore, N.Y./Bay Shore), 8-6. The Falcons got on the board after juniors
Lily Spagnola (Barnegat, N.J./Barnegat) and
Katherine Franzone (Mount Bethel, Pa./Pennsylvania Cyber Charter) took down Heidi Floyd () and Ksenya Larsen-Sorterup () at No. 1 doubles in an 8-5 final.
The Lady Defenders went onto take three singles matches to secure the win while the three others went unfinished. Sadowitz topped Spagnola at the top singles spot by identical 6-1, 6-1 scores. Larsen-Sorterup defeated Wolf in three sets at No. 3 (1-6, 6-2, 6-2). Cedar Crest picked up its second point after Browning defeated Karp at fourth singles, 6-4 and 6-0. Clarks Summit captured the match-winning point at the No. 5 spot as McKee beat senior
Brittany Schultz (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) by scores of 7-6 (6-0), 6-4. The matches at second singles and sixth singles went unfinished.
The loss ends the season for Cedar Crest, who finished with a 3-9 overall (3-2 CSAC). Clarks Summit moves onto the CSAC Championship match and will travel to top-seeded Cairn University on Saturday, April 29 starting at 2:00 p.m.
