Basketball Keeps Win Streak Alive, Tops Rosemont in Road Tilt, 83-50

ROSEMONT, Pa. – The Cedar Crest College basketball team secured its fifth-straight win with an 83-50 victory over Rosemont College at Alumnae Gymnasium in a United East Conference-Skye Division game on Saturday afternoon.

The Ravens got out to a 7-4 advantage in the early going after a three-pointer from sophomore Danaijah Wise (Philadelphia, Pa.). The Falcons answered back with a 7-0 run, capped off by a layup by first-year Caylie Long (Powder Springs, Ga./Hillgrove) with 2:27 on the clock to snag an 11-7 lead. Cedar Crest finished the quarter on a 9-4 spurt to end the frame up by nine points, 20-11.

The Falcons pushed its margin to double-digits in the second stanza and led by as many as 18 on two separate occasions. With the scoreboard reading 28-18 in favor of Cedar Crest, the Falcons scored eight straight points, six of them coming from Long and the final two on the run by junior Rachel Bilger (Philadelphia, Pa./Upper Dublin) to give the visitors the 36-18 lead. Back-to-back baskets by the Ravens trimmed the deficit to 13 with under two minutes remaining, but Cedar Crest entered the break ahead by 15, 40-25.

Rosemont began the third quarter on a 6-0 run to cut the Falcons' lead to nine, 40-31, after a layup by junior Mojisola Shokeye (Yonkers, N.Y.) with 7:51 remaining. After the Ravens made it a 10-point contest following a jump shot from Wise to make the score 43-33, Cedar Crest blew the game open with a 17-2 run to balloon its margin to 25, 60-35, with 1:13 to play. The teams traded pairs of free throws in the final minute as the Falcons ended the frame with a 62-37 lead.

Rosemont started the final quarter on a 7-0 run to cut the margin to 18, 62-44, after a jump shot by sophomore Lakay Holloway (Upper Darby, Pa.) with 7:10 left in regulation. Cedar Crest answered back with a 12-0 run to extend its lead to 30, 74-44, with 4:07 remaining on the clock. The Falcons would finish strong and come out with the 33-point win, 83-50.

Cedar Crest shot 51.7 percent for the game and held the Ravens to a 35.6 shooting percentage. The Falcons turned Rosemont over 31 times and converted those turnovers into 34 points.

Long paced Cedar Crest with a double-double of 23 points and 10 rebounds. The first-year also added three assists, seven steals, and two blocks. Bilger turned in a career-high 20 points to go along with nine boards, two assists, one steal, and one block. Graduate student Nicole Sachman (Niles, Mich./Brandywine) notched a double-double of 15 points, 10 rebounds, two assists, and four steals. Sophomore Jordan McGhee (Copperas Cove, Texas/Copperas Cove) tallied 13 points, eight caroms, four assists, and a steal. Junior Bryanna Rivera (Reading, Pa./Greenfield (Mass.)) contributed eight points, two rebounds, two assists, and two steals. First-year Kadee Schrader (Northampton, Pa./Northampton Area) closed out the scoring column with four points.

Shokeye registered a team-high 13 points for Rosemont. She also had three rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Holloway was the only other Raven with double-digit points as she tallied 10 points, five rebounds, four assists, and four steals.

Cedar Crest (6-6 overall, 5-4 United East-Skye Division) will next host Keystone College in a conference tilt on Wednesday, January 17 at 7:00 p.m. Rosemont (3-12 overall, 2-6 United East-Skye Division) will travel to Saint Elizabeth University for a league contest on Wednesday at 6:00 p.m.
