ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The Cedar Crest College field hockey team captured a 4-0 triumph over Southern Virginia University in its season finale at the FalconPlex on Thursday night.
After a scoreless first quarter, sophomore
Sydney Jeker (Sciota, Pa./Pleasant Valley) put a shot home at 25:20 off an assist from senior
Zakiyyah Sabir (Philadelphia, Pa./Philadelphia E&T).
Cedar Crest added to its lead in the third quarter after junior
Avery Daku (Northampton, Pa./Catasauqua) found the back of the cage at 40:57, with the assist being credited to first-year
Gracie Domingo-Whitfield (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) as the Falcons pushed the score to 2-0.
Domingo-Whitfield got in on the scoring when she recorded her first career goal at 47:55. The helper was awarded to junior
Olivia Wanner (Lyons, Pa./Kutztown Area). Daku netted her second goal of the contest at 55:55, which was set up by Jeker for the 4-0 final.
Sophomore
Shelby Heater (Lehighton, Pa./Lehighton Area) secured the win in goal for the Falcons, making six saves. Sophomore Paola Nunez (Winston Salem, N.C.) was tagged with the loss for the Knights, converting eight stops.
Cedar Crest held a 20-7 advantage in shots, while Southern Virginia tallied four penalty corners to the Falcons' three.
This marked the final game of the 2024 season for Cedar Crest (5-13 overall). Southern Virginia (0-11 overall) concludes its season on Tuesday, November 5 in a road game at Eastern Mennonite University beginning at 6:00 p.m.
