LA PLUME, Pa. — The Cedar Crest College soccer team rolled passed Keystone College with a commanding 8-1 victory at Keystone Turf Field on Saturday, scoring six goals in the first half.
The Falcons began the first half assertively, with first-year
Laila Stevenson (Sayreville, N.J./Sayreville War Memorial) scoring the opening goal in the 13th minute to give the visiting team an early lead. Cedar Crest maintained pressure, and Stevenson extended the lead with her second goal of the match in the 18th minute, assisted by junior
Avery Kramer (Blandon, Pa./Fleetwood Area).
The offensive momentum continued as first-year
Amiyah Carroll (Severn, Md./Old Mill Senior) and senior
Lauren Davis (Oley, Pa./Oley Valley) each added goals, with Carroll also providing an assist for Davis' strike. Junior
Stephanie Macaluso (Kendall Park, N.J./South Brunswick) then contributed with a goal of her own, making it 5-0. The Falcons closed the half with another goal from Davis, taking a commanding 6-0 lead into halftime.
Senior
Bella Bozen (Lockport, Ill./Lockport Township) set the tone early in the second half with a goal at the 57th minute, extending the margin. Bozen struck again shortly after in the 63rd minute, marking her second goal of the season and pushing the score to 8-0. The Giants responded with a goal by junior Victory Frantz (Mifflintown, Pa.) in the 65th minute, making the score 8-1.
Cedar Crest maintained pressure through the latter stages, with junior
Alexia Kempski (Bear, Del./Odessa) and first-year
Caroline Rodriguez (Catasauqua, Pa./Catasauqua) both forcing saves from Keystone senior Malaysia Bryant (Harlem, N.Y.).l Despite Keystone's attempts to close the gap, the Falcons' defense, led by Macaluso, held firm.
Bozen scored two goals, marking the first tallies of her collegiate career. Stevenson contributed with two goals, including the game-winner, and led with four shots on goal. Carroll notched one goal and added an assist while taking five shots, four of which were on goal. Macaluso recorded one goal, recording her first collegiate marker.
Frantz led Keystone with one goal and was active in the attack with four shots, three of which were on goal. Bryant, serving as goalkeeper, had a notable performance with 11 saves, facing 19 shots overall. Senior Gianna McNerney (Covington Township, Pa.) contributed to the offense with one shot (on goal).
Cedar Crest (3-9 overall, 2-3 United East) will next host Penn College on Wednesday, October 15 at 6:30 p.m. Keystone (0-10-1 overall, 0-5-0 United) will hit the road to play the University of Valley Forge on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.
