Soccer Loses Tight Match to Delaware Valley on Senior Day, 2-1

ALLENTOWN, Pa. — The Cedar Crest College soccer team lost to Delaware Valley University in a 2-1 final on Saturday afternoon at FalconPlex on Senior Day. Prior to the match, the program honored its two seniors Bella Bozen (Lockport, Ill./Lockport Township) and Lauren Davis (Oley, Pa./Oley Valley) in a special pre-match ceremony.

The first half began with the Falcons quickly asserting themselves as first-year Laila Stevenson (Sayreville, N.J./Sayreville War Memorial) found the back of the net in the 16th minute, assisted by Davis, to put the home team ahead. Shortly after, the Aggies equalized with a penalty kick by sophomore Alexa DelGiudice (Stroudsburg, Pa.) in the 22nd minute. Despite multiple attempts from Cedar Crest, including saves by Delaware Valley senior Nicole Ocejo (Gloucester County, N.J.), it was sophomore Marissa Rogers (Perkasie, Pa.) who scored in the 38th minute to give the visitors a 2-1 lead at the end of the half.

The second half began with Bozen showcasing her goalkeeping skills, making a critical save on a shot by Rogers just 11 seconds in. Despite a flurry of the Aggies' attempts, Bozen remained resolute with multiple saves, including those in the 50th and 65th minutes. The Falcons' offensive efforts included a shot-on-goal by Stevenson in the 70th minute, but Ocejo thwarted the attempt, maintaining the scoreline.

Stevenson scored one goal and led Cedar Crest with six shots, including four shots on goal. Bozen made an impact in the net, recording 11 saves over the course of 90 minutes. Davis contributed to the team's offense with one assist in the match.

Rogers scored the game-winning goal for Delaware Valley, tallying four shots with two on goal. DelGiudice contributed a goal and led the team with seven shots and five shots on goal, converting one penalty shot. Ocejo had a strong performance, recording eight saves on nine shots faced, securing the team's defensive effort.

Cedar Crest (1-6-0 overall) will stay home to host Juniata College on Tuesday, September 23 at 7:00 p.m. Delaware Valley (2-5-1 overall) returns home to face Rutgers-Camden on Wednesday, September 24 at 7:00 p.m.
