READING, Pa. — The Cedar Crest College tennis team was defeated by Penn State Berks in a 7-0 final on Saturday.
The Nittany Lions began the match by taking the doubles point. At first doubles, the pair of juniors
Grace Huff (Pottsville, Pa./Pottsville Area) and
Cam Beverage (Taylor, Pa./Riverside) lost 6-0. At No. 2 doubles, sophomore
Ella Bincarosky (Coopersburg, Pa./Bethlehem Catholic) and senior
Megan Perrine (Mount Vision, N.Y./Gilbertsville-Mount Upton) were defeated 6-4. Penn State Berks won the third doubles by forfeit.
In singles play, Beverage was taken down 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 singles. First-year
Jade Wilson (Allentown, Pa./Louis E. Dieruff) fell at second singles with a score of 6-2, 6-1. Huff lost her match at No. 3 singles, finishing 6-4 and 6-2. Perrine competed at fourth singles and concluded with a 6-2, 6-1 loss. Bincarosky lost in a third-set super tiebreak at No. 5 singles. Bincarosky won the first set 6-2 but then lost the second set 6-3 and the tiebreak 11-9. The Nittany Lions captured the sixth singles point by forfeit.
The loss ends the season for Cedar Crest (1-10 overall, 1-8 United East). Penn State Berks (4-9 overall, 4-5 United East) has claimed a spot in the United East Conference Championship Tournament as the No. 6 seed and will host seventh-seeded Penn State Brandywine in the Play-In Round on Wednesday, April 22 at 3:00 p.m.
