Cedar Crest College Athletics

ALLENTOWN, Pa. — The Cedar Crest College field hockey team lost to Lycoming College, 3-0, on Saturday at the FalconPlex.

The Falcons fell behind in the first quarter when Warriors' junior Lacy Eckard (Muncy, Pa.) scored off senior Loghan Shelly (Manheim, Pa.)'s assist at 4:13. Senior Shelby Heater (Lehighton, Pa./Lehighton Area) made four saves for Cedar Crest, and senior Reagan Ferst (Hazleton, Pa./Hazleton Area) added a defensive save as Lycoming recorded seven shots and three penalty corners. The Warriors finished the quarter ahead 1-0.

A second-quarter goal left the Falcons behind 2-0 after Lycoming sophomore Laurel Fite (Shermans Dale, Pa.) scored at 17:43. First-year Ava Hendricks (Bloomsburg, Pa./Bloomsburg Area) produced the Cedar Crest's three shots in the frame, with one stopped by a defensive save and two saved by junior Hilary Clark (Wilmington, Del.), including one after consecutive penalty corners by senior Courtney Gibbons (Allentown, Pa./Parkland). The Falcons entered halftime down 2-0.

Cedar Crest kept the Warriors scoreless in the third quarter as Heater made three saves. The Falcons generated a penalty corner from Gibbons and shots by Hendricks and senior Sydney Jeker (Sciota, Pa./Pleasant Valley) before the quarter ended with Lycoming ahead 2-0.

The Warriors added the only fourth-quarter goal at 50:03, with Shelly scoring off junior Riley Hackett (Hampstead, Md.)'s assist to put Cedar Crest behind 3-0. The Falcons put both of their fourth-quarter shots on goal through Hendricks, but Clark saved attempts at 51:44 and 59:04. Heater made two saves in the quarter, and Cedar Crest finished with a 3-0 loss.

For the Falcons, Hendricks recorded six shots, putting five on goal. Heater posted 12 saves over 60 minutes in goal. Ferst added one defensive save.

For Lycoming, Shelly tallied a goal and an assist while taking a team-high seven shots, five on goal. Eckard scored the game-winning goal and put five of her six shots on frame. Fite added a goal on three shots, all on goal. Clark made five saves over 60 minutes and recorded the shutout.

Cedar Crest (2-3 overall) begins a four-game road trip on Tuesday, September 22 at Manhattanville University at 4:00 p.m. Lycoming (3-3 overall) will travel to Scranton, Pennsylvania to face Marywood on Wednesday, September 23 at 4:00 p.m.
