Cedar Crest College Athletics

ALLENTOWN, Pa. — The Cedar Crest College soccer team rolled to a 9-0 victory over Washington Adventist University on Wednesday evening at the FalconPlex. The Falcons finished with a 36-6 shot advantage, including 21-3 in shots on goal, and recorded the shutout.

First-year Sophia DeVito (Vineland, N.J./Cumberland County Technical Education Center) put Cedar Crest in front in the 10^th minute off sophomore Niyema Romero's (Buckeye, Ariz./Youngker) assist, and the Falcons turned their first-half pressure into a 5-0 halftime lead. Sophomore Amiyah Carroll (Severn, Md./Old Mill Senior) scored with an assist from first-year Makenna Tavares (Easton, Pa./Easton Area) in the 14^th minute, DeVito added goals in the 21^st and 28^th minutes, and junior Lizzy DeNunzio (Easton, Pa./Easton Area) scored with Carroll assisting in the 28^th minute. The home team continued to create chances late in the half, taking six shots and earning a corner from 35:03 through 44:40.

Cedar Crest expanded their lead immediately after halftime, with first-year Camille Chambers (Albrightsville, Pa./North Hunterdon) scoring in the 47^th minute and again off Romero's assist in the 48^th minute. DeVito added a Romero-assisted goal in the 56th minute, and Chambers scored again in the 69^th minute as the Falcons scored four goals in the second half for the 9-0 final.

DeVito scored four goals on seven shots, put four attempts on goal and recorded the game-winning goal for Cedar Crest. Chambers added three goals while leading the Falcons with 11 shots, including eight on goal. Romero tallied three assists and added two shots. DeNunzio finished with a goal, an assist and six shots, putting four on goal. First-year Sarah Parsons (Brimfield, Mass./Tantasqua Regional) played 22:07 in goal and recorded two saves while classmate Katie Nussle (Elkton, Md./Tri-State Christian Academy) collected one save in 67:53 to combine for the shutout.

Junior Andrea Jurado Villatoro (Laurel, Md.) recorded 12 saves in 90 minutes for the Shock, including nine in the first half. Junior Dulce Salces (Stafford, Va.) led Washington Adventist with four shots and put two on goal. Junior Mireida Castillo (Falls Church, Va.) added two shots, including one on frame.

Cedar Crest (2-4-0 overall) opens conference play with its next match at Penn State Berks on Saturday, September 26 at noon. Washington Adventist (1-4-0 overall) next hosts Bluefield State University on Wednesday, September 30.
