Cedar Crest College Athletics

BALTIMORE, Md. — The Cedar Crest College soccer team lost to Notre Dame of Maryland University, 3-2, on Tuesday afternoon in United East Conference action at The Turf Field Sponsored by the SSNDs.

The Falcons answered the Gators' goal in the first half when junior Lizzy DeNunzio (Easton, Pa./Easton Area) scored off first-year Camille Chambers' (Albrightsville, Pa./North Hunterdon) assist at 20:56 to tie the match 1-1. First-year Sarah Parsons (Brimfield, Mass./Tantasqua Regional) made five saves in the half as Cedar Crest faced continued pressure. NDMU went back in front in the 32^nd minute, and the Falcons went into halftime down 2-1.

DeNunzio answered the Gators' goal in the 84^th minute one minute later, scoring in the 85^th to pull Cedar Crest within one, 3-2. The Falcons created chances earlier in the half, including senior Avery Kramer's (Blandon, Pa./Fleetwood Area) shot after a corner kick in the 57^th minute and DeNunzio's saved attempt in the 72nd minute, while Parsons made three saves after halftime. NDMU held the 3-2 score through the final whistle.

DeNunzio scored twice and led Cedar Crest with five shots, putting three on goal. Chambers recorded an assist and put her lone shot on frame. Parsons finished with eight saves over 90 minutes in goal.

First-year Ava Tippett (Stevensville, Md.) scored twice on two shots for the Gators, including the game-winning goal, and finished with four points. Junior Taylor Edwards (Bowie, Md.) recorded two assists and added two shots. Sophomore Leah Acri (Harrisburg, Pa.) scored once on five shots, putting four on goal. Senior Leah Hasberry (San Antonio, Texas) made five saves over 90 minutes in goal.

Cedar Crest (2-6-0 overall, 0-2-0 United East) next hosts Penn State Brandywine for a conference match on Saturday, October 3 at noon. Notre Dame of Maryland University (3-6-0 overall, 1-1-0 United East) will return to action on Wednesday, October 7 at Penn State Brandywine at 4:00 p.m.
