Field Hockey Falls in Narrow Loss to Non-League Arcadia, 2-1

9/7/2010 12:00:00 AM

Glenside, PA - In a homecoming of sorts for new Head Coach Cindy Joseph, the Cedar Crest field hockey team visited non-league foe Arcadia on Tuesday. Joseph, who formerly coached at Arcadia, had to be happy for a while as it looked as though the Falcons might one-up the Knights, gamely keeping things close and brazenly taking a 1-0 lead into halftime.

Although Arcadia dominated the offensive end of the field in the first half and got off 12 shots to Cedar Crest's two, the Falcons were opportunistic. Senior Adrienne Maurer (Shillington, PA/Governor Mifflin) scored the half's only goal at 27:30 off a feed from sophomore Catherine "OJ" Onjack (Bangor, PA/Bangor Area) to go into the locker room with the team's first halftime lead of the young season. But any budding confidence was soon deflated as the Knights raised the intensity in the second half, continuing to monopolize the ball and preventing the Falcons from getting a single shot off for the remainder of the game. Cedar Crest sophomore Lindsay Harrison's (Hanover, PA/Littlestown) 14 saves went a long way towards keeping the Falcons in the game.

Cedar Crest drops to 1-3 overall on the season, while Arcadia improves to 2-0.

The Falcons will play another non-league game at DeSales University on Thursday, September 9, at 4:00 p.m.
