Allentown, PA - Earlier this week the young Falcons finally won one on the road, and on Saturday they recorded their first Colonial States Athletic Conference win of the season. In a home tri-match, Cedar Crest defeated CSAC foe Notre Dame of Maryland University 3-0 before falling to the Centennial Conference's Washington College by the same 3-0 score.
Sophomore Amber Wehry (Klingerstown, PA, Tri-Valley) was the star of the first game, a Falcon win by the scores of 25-10, 25-20, and 25-18. Wehry led all players with 12 kills and an impressive six aces, and was also close to leading in digs with seven. That honor instead went to freshman Jess Lobien (Lehighton, PA, Lehighton) who had nine. Twin sister Deb Lobien (Lehighton, PA, Lehighton) led all players in sets with 14, and had eight digs herself.
Washington College also defeated Notre Dame 3-0 in the middle contest.
In the final match, Washington turned the tables and made similarly short work of the Falcons. The Shorewomen won in three by scores of 25-15, 25-20 and 25-14. Freshman Nikki Johnson (Ashley, PA, Holy Redeemer) led all players in digs with 14, and Deb Lobien had eight to go along with seven assists. Jess Lobien had nine digs in the second match as well.
Cedar Crest is now 7-7 on the season, and with the win over Notre Dame is now 1-3 in the conference. Notre Dame drops to 2-10 and 1-3 in the CSAC, and Washington improves to 9-7 and 0-3 in the Centennial. The Falcons will look for another CSAC win at home against Marywood University on Wednesday, October 5th, at 7:00 PM.
