Allentown, PA - It was Senior Night on Tuesday night, and after thanking seniors Katey Dauble (Allentown, PA/William Allen) and Marie Polzella (Athens, PA/Athens Area) for their contributions to the volleyball program during the past four years, the team decided to send them out in style by defeating Colonial States Athletic Conference opponent Keystone College in straight sets.
The set scores were 25-9, 25-18, and 25-14. Sophomore Amber Wehry (Klingerstown, PA/Tri-Valley Jr/Sr) had a banner evening, leading all players in kills with eight and in digs with 15. Freshman Debra Lobien (Lehighton, PA/Lehighton) led all players in assists with 27. Four Falcons - Jessica Lobien (Lehighton, PA/Lehighton), Kiersten Collins (Forest City, PA/Forest City Regional), Nikole Johnson (Ashley, PA/Holy Redeemer), and Rebecca Grady (Silver Spring, MD/Paint Branch) - had five kills each, and of particular note Lobien and Collins recorded hitting percentages of .625 and .556 respectively. Grady also had three service aces.
With the win, Cedar Crest improves to 9-15 overall and 3-7 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference. Keystone drops to 2-16 and is still searching for their first CSAC win. Next up, the Knights of Neumann University come to town on Thursday, October 27th, at 7:00 PM for the final CSAC clash of the season. With three matches yet to go, the Falcons have a shot at their first 10 win season since 2006, when the team was 13-11.
