Falcons End Season on a Heartbreaking 4-3 OT Loss at Bryn Mawr

10/27/2011 6:39:00 PM

Bryn Mawr, PA - On Thursday, Cedar Crest ended their 2011 season on a disappointing note with a 4-3 overtime road loss to non-conference opponent Bryn Mawr College. More disappointing than the score, however, was the manner in which the game transpired.

The evenly-matched teams saw a lot of back and forth action over the first half, and although the Owls were able to pepper the Falcons with 11 shots, junior keeper Lindsay Harrison (Hanover, PA/Littlestown) was able to turn them all back to keep the hosts off the board.

The game was largely scoreless on both sides until the Falcons' Erin Studer (Kent, CT/Housatonic Valley Regional) and Heather Rice (Thurmont, MD/Catoctin) both scored just minutes apart right before halftime. Things looked good as Cedar Crest entered the break on the up side of a 2-0 lead.

Things tightened a bit in the second half when the Owls' Madison Beckmann scored just over eight minutes into the period to cut the score to 2-1. Not to be outdone, Studer then scored her second goal with an assist from Lauren Salge (Robbinsville, NJ/Allentown) in the 46th minute to restore the Falcons' two-goal cushion.

With the clock winding down to just over six minutes left to play and with the game seemingly in hand for Cedar Crest, the game-breaker came as Beckmann stunned the Falcons with two more goals in a span of 26 seconds to tie the score at 3-3.

And Beckmann was not finished. After forcing overtime, she then went on to score the gamewinner, unassisted, just 2:48 into the first overtime to send the Falcons home empty-handed.

Cedar Crest's three goals are the most scored in a game since a 9-1 win at Rosemont in 2009. Bryn Mawr held a 26-13 advantage in shots and a 16-8 edge in penalty corners, and Falcon goalies Harrison and Falynn Strohl (Allentown, PA/William Allen) combined for 15 saves.

Cedar Crest ends the season at 1-16 overall and 1-6 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference. Bryn Mawr improves to 2-15 and 0-10 in the Centennial Conference.
