Allentown, PA - In their last home action of the season, Cedar Crest fell to Colonial States Athletic Conference opponent Neumann University by a score of 3-0.
Neumann played as one would expect of a 20-plus win team with just a single conference loss. In the first set, after building a gradual 17-10 lead, the Knights closed with a crushing 8-0 run for a 25-10 win. The Falcons, however, would not be intimidated. In the following set, they stayed closer and even held an 8-5 lead before the Knights put together a few runs of four or five points for each point Cedar Crest could manage, en route to a 25-15 win. In the final set Cedar Crest shined, holding leads of 12-6 and 13-8 before Neumann climbed back to tie with a few short runs. The set ended with a fierce, one- and two-point back and forth volley that finally ended in a 25-22 Knight victory.
For Cedar Crest, freshman Kiersten Collins (Forest City, PA/Forest City Regional) led the team in kills with six and had a .286 hitting percentage on the night. Freshman Debra Lobien (Lehighton, PA/Lehighton) led the Falcons in assists with 14. Senior Katey Dauble (Allentown, PA/William Allen) led the team in digs with 11, while Nikole Johnson (Ashley, PA/Holy Redeemer) and Amber Wehry (Klingerstown, PA/Tri-Valley Jr/Sr) had 10 each.
Cedar Crest drops to 9-16 overall and 3-8 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference, while Neumann improves to 21-11 and 10-1 in the CSAC. On Saturday, October 29th, the Falcons will close out their season with two matches in a tri-match at Polytechnic Institute of NYU in Brooklyn. Cedar Crest plays the hosts at 11:00 AM and Lehman College at 1:00 PM. With two matches yet to go, the Falcons have a shot at their first 10 win season since 2006, when the team was 13-11.
