Cedar Crest Splits at NY Tri-Match to End Season With 10 Wins

Brooklyn, NY - Cedar Crest won their last match of the year on Saturday, against Lehman in a tri-match at Polytechnic Institute of NYU. The victory was the Falcons' tenth of the season, giving them their first 10-win season since 2006 when the team finished 13-11.

In the opening match, playoff-bound hosts Polytechnic of the Skyline Conference defeated Cedar Crest 3-0, by scores of 25-18, 25-23, and 25-18. Freshman Rebecca Grady (Silver Spring, MD/Paint Branch) led the Falcons in kills with seven, ending with a .357 hitting percentage, and Debra Lobien (Lehighton, PA/Lehighton) led the team in assists with 23. Sophomore Amber Wehry (Klingerstown, PA/Tri-Valley Jr/Sr) led all players in digs with 21, while Nikole Johnson (Ashley, PA/Holy Redeemer) had 14 and Jessica Lobien (Lehighton, PA/Lehighton) had 13.

Against Lehman, after winning the opening game 25-18, Cedar Crest lost 25-16 and 15-20 to go down two games to one. Fortunately, the Falcons rallied to win the fourth game 25-21 and force the tiebreaker, which they won by a convincing 15-6. Grady again excelled with 21 kills and a .302 hitting percentage. Wehry had 11 kills, hit .346, and had 20 digs. Deb Lobien led in assists with 41, along with three aces and 20 digs. Johnson led in digs with 22, and Marie Polzella (Athens, PA/Athens Area), in her final game, had 19.

Cedar Crest finishes the seaon 10-17 overall and 3-8 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference.
