Cedar Crest Gets the Short End in Home Tri-Match

10/8/2011 5:45:00 PM

Allentown, PA - On Saturday, Cedar Crest lost on both ends of a home tri-match, first to Colonial States Athletic Conference opponent Centenary College by a score of 3-0, then to the Landmark Conference's Moravian College by the same score of 3-0.

The Falcons started strong, taking the Cyclones, who were undefeated in the CSAC, to the brink before losing 28-26. The second game was a similarly close 25-21 loss. But by the third game, Centenary's All-Conference player Jelena Markovic took matters into her own hands, opening with a barrage of barrage of precision serves that sent Cedar Crest reeling and ultimately helped lead the Cyclones to a 25-14 win. Sophomore Amber Wehry (Klingerstown, PA, Tri-Valley) led the Falcons in kills with eight, along with 13 digs. Freshman Jessica Hile (Amberson, PA, Fannett-Metal) led the team in assists with 13, and Nikki Johnson (Ashley, PA, Holy Redeemer) led the team in digs with 14. Freshman Jess Lobien (Lehighton, PA, Lehighton) had 13 digs as well.

Moravian defeated Centenary 3-1 in the second match.

In the final match, Moravian proved to be just too much for the beleaguered Falcons, winning in three by the scores of 25-17, 25-11, and 25-17. Wehry again led the team in kills with eight, and Johnson again led the team in digs, this time with 16. Deb Lobien (Lehighton, PA, Lehighton) led the Falcons in assists with 14.

Cedar Crest drops to 7-10 overall and is 1-5 in the CSAC. Centenary is now 11-14 over all and remains undefeated in the CSAC at 5-0, while Moravian improves to 15-9 overall and 1-2 in the Landmark. The Falcons will look for another CSAC win on the road at Philadelphia Biblical University on Thursday, October 13th, at 7:00 PM.
