Box Score
La Plume, PA - Cedar Crest found their groove too late to pull out the win at Colonial States Athletic Conference opponent Keystone College on Saturday, losing 60-50.
Both teams traded baskets early, then early foul trouble spelled trouble for Cedar Crest. Keystone began to pull away, leading by seven midway through the first half, until a three-pointer by sophomore Amber Wehry (Klingerstown, PA/Tri-Valley Jr/Sr) keyed a Falcon run that gave Cedar Crest a 15-14 lead with 8:40 to go until the half.
But a three by the Giants' Ashley Evans then ignited a 13-3 Keystone run that put the hosts back up by nine, a margin that held until the break thanks to cold outside shooting by Cedar Crest.
Halftime adjustments didn't seem to help the Falcons out of the gate, and Keystone began to extend their lead to as many as 25 points, at 58-33, with less than six minutes to play.
Then, as though flipping a switch, Cedar Crest then abandoned their ineffective perimeter game and began to pound the ball inside, resulting in a furious 17-2 closing run. But with just six minutes to work with, the Falcons ran out of time and could get no closer than 10.
Senior Lizzy Sunderhaus (Hamilton, OH/Stephen T. Badin) led all scorers with 25 points and all rebounders with 12. Junior Megan DeMutis (Norristown, PA/Kennedy-Kenrick Catholic) had a career-high 18 points.
Keystone's Chantel Blake had 11 points and Tiana Cuttino had nine boards.
Cedar Crest drops to 1-10 on the season and 0-6 in the CSAC. Keystone improves to 4-7 and 1-3 in the conference. The Falcons will host CSAC rival Centenary College on Monday, January 7th, at 6:00 PM.
