Allentown, PA - On the road in a CSAC game with potential playoff implications, Cedar Crest bested Centenary College by a score of 3-2 after beginning in a 2-0 hole.
After the first two sets, it appeared as though the Cyclones would make short work of the Falcons. In the first set, the Falcons blew a five point lead to lose convincingly, 25-18. In the second set, they never led on the way to a 25-19 final.
But Cedar Crest dug deep, and in the third set blew things open after a 6-6 tie to win going away, 25-16. The fourth set was a nip and tuck nailbiter, with 7 ties and 2 lead changes, the most important being when the Falcons took the lead for good at 23-22 and won 25-23.
Tied at two sets apiece and with new life, the teams braced for the 15-point deciding set. The set was almost entirely a one-point game, although Cedar Crest took a four point lead at one point which Centenary turned into an 11-all tie. After a series of timeouts and thanks to two big kills by Rebecca Grady (Silver Spring, MD/Paint Branch) and a final one by Debra Lobien, the Falcons prevailed 15-13. The 15-point game featured seven ties.
Grady led all players with 16 kills and a four aces, and hit .467. Lobien had 33 assists and Ericka Clayton (Zionsville, PA/Allentown Central Catholic) had 15 digs. Kamala Meena Sutton (New Rochelle, NY/New Rochelle) had six aces.
The Falcons are in the hunt for one of six CSAC playoff berths with a 4-3 record that currently has them tied for fifth with Marywood. They are 10-12 overall. Centenary is now 6-22 and 4-3 in the CSAC as well. On Saturday, October 20th, Cedar Crest will host King's and CSAC foe Immaculata in a tri-match at 11:00 AM.
