The Cedar Crest Field Hockey team played valiantly against Immaculata University's Mighty Macs in their Homecoming "Think Pink" game. Fans filled the stands and welcomed the warm, sunny weather as the Field Hockey team honored breast cancer survivor Mrs. Elisabeth Piliacampi, mother of Head Tennis Coach Lynn Pigliacampi. While Cedar Crest played a hard fought game, the Mighty Macs would win 2-7 against the Falcons.Â
With impressive ball handling skills all over the field, the Falcons looked in mid-season form as they were cheered on by friends, family, and fans. With a united cause to play for, the Falcons worked hard to keep possession of the ball in the offensive end, but the first half would end 0-4 in favor of the Mighty Macs.Â
In the second half of regulation play, the Falcons built up on their aggressiveness from the first half to achieve their team goals. Junior Chelsea Thompson (Coatesville, PA/Collegium Charter School) would score the first goal for Cedar Crest at 47:37 from senior defender Jen Harbison (Phillipsburg, NJ/Phillipsburg). Not only did Thompson's goal put the Falcons on the score board, it was also her first career goal. With an equal number of offensive penalty corner chances to score for both teams, Emily Rodenberger (Pennsburg, PA/Upper Perkiomen) hit the back of the cage for the Falcons a second time at 53:34 off of a corner play.Â
Jessica Sanbeg (Effort, PA/Pleasant Valley) and Rodenberger each tallied 5 shots on goal and Viviana Samite would take 4 shots against the Mighty Macs. Erin Studer (Kent, CT/Housatonic Valley Regional) and Thompson each had 1 shot on goal. Goalkeeper Kaitlyn Bredlinger had 22 saves during regulation play.Â
Cedar Crest drops to 0-2 in conference, 0-12 overall and Immaculate University improves to 4-8 overall. Up next, the Falcons will play on their home field against the Pacers of Marywood University on Wednesday, October 16th at 4:00pm.
