Field Hockey Honors Seniors

Box Score Allentown, PA

The Cedar Crest Field Hockey team geared up for their final matchup of the 2013 season against the Knights of Neumann University. The Falcons fought the Knights in a heated contest as this was the senior recognition game for Erin Studer (Kent, CT/Housatonic Valley Regional) and Jen Harbison (Phillipsburg, NJ/Phillipsburg). The team played with strength and intelligence, but was unable to secure the 2-5 win over the Knights.
Head Coach Cindy Joseph told the Falcons in her pre-game speech to "leave it all on the field" and go hard for the entire game. The team would do just that with accurate tackles and impressive stick skills that show off all that they have worked on all season. After the Knights took an early lead, scoring twice in the first 16 minutes of play, sophomore Emily Rodenberger (Pennsburg, PA/Upper Perkiomen) would hit the back of the cage on a corner shot, assisted by Viviana Samite. The first half would end 3-1 in favor of the Knights.
With a reminder that this would be the last half of Falcon Field Hockey for the seniors, the team stepped onto the field after halftime stronger than ever. The Falcons made good use of their offensive penalty corners as Rodenberger would score again off of a corner shot from Rachel Stump (Fleetwood, PA/Fleetwood). Unfortunately, the Knights answered back with two more goals to end the game.
Sophomore Goalkeeper Kaitlyn Bredlinger had 24 saves at the end of today's game along with two defensive saves for Harbison and one a piece for Selena Contreras (Catasauqua, PA/Catasauqua) and Stump.
The team wishes the best of luck to our seniors and a big thank you to all of our fans for your support! Cedar Crest closes out the season 1–17 overall and 1–6 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference. Neumann improves to 8–11 overall.
