In the Championship game of the All Women's College Tip-off Tournament, Cedar Crest fell to The College of New Rochelle 79-48 to even their overall record at 1-1. Freshman, Taylor Osley (Allentown, PA/Louis E. Dieruff High School) led the Falcons with 10 points, 5 rebounds and 3 steals in the losing effort.
"This was a tough game," explained Taylor, "we just couldn't finish our shots. On top of that New Rochelle dominated the glass which limited our scoring opportunities while they were able to get multiple shot attempts." New Rochelle held a 61-31 rebounding advantage in the contest, which resulted in them having 82 field goal attempts compared to Cedar Crest's 55. The Falcons shot 34.5% for the game.
The Falcons would once again find themselves with an early lead, taking a 3-0 lead in the first 1:49 of the game.  New Rochelle would then go on a 24-4 run to take a 20 point lead with  8:22 remaining in the first half.  The Falcons would then start to claw back into the game, thanks in large part to Kayleigh Keggan (Blairstown, NJ/Belvidere)'s hot hand.  Keggan, who shot 2-4 from three point range on the day, would not only find the net twice in the first half from beyond the arc, but would also grab a defensive rebound that would keep the Falcons in the fight.  The Falcons would pull within 12 before the buzzer would sound on the first half.
The second half, the Falcons would rely on their veterans early as Amber Wehry (Klingerstown, PA/Tri-Valley Jr/Sr) would hit a jumped to pull the Falcons back within 15 after falling behind early, the DeJanet Lantion (Silver Spring, MD/John F. Kennedy) would score on a breakaway to pull the Falcons within 13. Â New Rochelle would then pull away from the Falcons and claim the 2013 All Women's College Tournament Championship, downing the Falcons 79-48.
Making the All-Tournament team from Cedar Crest was junior Breonna Lewis (Abingdon, MD/Sovereign Grace Homeschool) who finished with 9 points and 8 rebounds in the title game. Lewis finished the weekend averaging 12.5 points and 6.5 rebounds. Sophomore Kayleigh Keggan (Blairstown, NJ/Belvidere) scored 9 points, shooting 2-4 from the 3 point line. Juniors, DeJanet Lantion (Silver Spring, MD/John F. Kennedy) and Shaquira McCottry (Philadelphia, PA/Girard College) each tallied 7 points apiece.
"This is a great teaching opportunity for us," expressed Taylor, "New Rochelle did something's that a lot of teams will mimic to take us out of our offense, so we'll work on correcting those issues in practice."
Next up for the Falcons are the Screaming Eagles of the College of Saint Elizabeth on Tuesday, November 19 at 7 p.m. at Lees Hall Gymnasium on the campus of Cedar Crest College.
