Falcons sweep the Lady Defenders for sixth straight win

Senior Natalia Dial (Kannapolis, PA/Jesse C. Carson) (Kannapolis, Pa)  and Junior Shannon Wenner (Drums, PA/MMI Preparatory) (Drums, Pa)  both hit walk off home runs to earn Cedar Crest College two wins over Baptist Bible (4-12, 1-7 CSAC) in this weekends Colonial State Athletic Conference doubleheader.

With the score tied at one a piece going into the top of the third inning, the Falcons(7-8, 6-5 CSAC) really got things going when Freshman Kali Jones (Pottsville, PA/Pottsville Area HS)(Pottsville, Pa)  earned two RBIs from her base hit. With bases loaded, Freshman Alicia Zook (Hughesville, PA/Hughesville High School ) (Hughesville, Pa) was disciplined at the plate and earned a walk that brought in a run. Freshman Ericka Clayton (Zionsville, PA/Allentown Central Catholic HS) (Zionsville, Pa) earned an RBI when she popped it out to center field making it 5-1 bottom of the fifth.

The Lady Defenders added two more runs making it 5-3 going into the top of the sixth.

Wenner stepped up to drive one to deep left center for her third home run this season. Dial would be brought in by another hard hit single from Jones making the score 8-3 bringing up the bottom of the sixth.

With bases loaded Senior Alyson Mason (Salem, CT/East Lyme) (Salem, CT) earned herself an RBI with a walk. Zook was alert on third and saw her opportunity on a passed ball to break for home making the score 10-3.

In the seventh inning both Freshman Paige VanderMeer (Pottsville, Pa) and Zook earned RBI's from hard hit singles to left field. Showing tough defense and aggresive offense, the Falcons earned the win with a final score of 10-3

In game two the Lady defenders jumped out to a 3-0 lead until the top of the third when Cedar Crest's Clayton got things started with a base hit. Sophomore Jeniffer Hallowell (Coopersburg, PA/Southern Lehigh) (Coopersburg, Pa) and Mason both hit singles. With bases loaded Wenner earned an RBI with a walk. Dial hit a  fly ball out to left field but not without earning two RBI's. The Falcons earned extra bases and a run from a wild pitch closing out the inning with a score of 6-3.

Corin Landry  put another run up for Baptist Bible when she sent one deep to left field for a home run making it a two run game.

With the bases loaded Zook hit a single to left center earning the Falcons another run. Clayton earned two RBI's and a base hit with an error from the left fielder making the score 11-4.

In the seventh inning Dial would hit to deep left earning her a home run; her first of the season. Baptist Bible's Heidi Howell earned an RBI making the final score 12-5 in favor of the Falcons.

After these two wins the Falcons have now won six straight double headers.

The Falcons are on the road this week playing a non-conference double header against College of St. Elizabeth on April 9th at 3:30pm.
