Falcons Come Back, Win 3-2 in OT, Keep Playoff Hopes Alive

Allentown, PA- The Cedar Crest soccer team secured another CSAC win today in a thrilling 3-2 overtime game versus the Cairn University Highlanders.

The Falcons would start out strong in the beginning of the first half, with Courtney Long (Coopersburg, PA/Southern Lehigh) creating many opportunities for the Falcons to strike home first. This energy would slow down towards the middle of the half, with the Highlanders finding the net in the 20th and 30th minute respectively. The play would continue to go between both teams back and forth, with the half eventually ending at 2-0.

Freshman midfielder Caitlyn Mann (Harrisburg, PA/Central Dauphin) would lessen the goal difference for the Falcons in the 78th minute when she pummeled a free kick into the near left post, leaving the Highlander Goalkeeper no chance at saving it. This goal ignited the fire that the Falcons needed as they continually attacked the Highlander defense. Junior defender, Kristen Spencer (Bangor, PA/Pen Argyl Area) would equalize for the Falcons, and secure her first goal of the season as she neatly placed a left foot volley into the upper corner of the Highlander goal in the 88th minute.  This goal would force play into overtime.

In overtime; forward, Courtney Long (Coopersburg, PA/Southern Lehigh) would continue her goal scoring streak and finish the game winning goal for the Falcons in the 95th minute, as she went 1v1 with the Highlander goalkeeper, and neatly strike it by her for the win.  Nalani Velasquez (Howell, NJ/Howell) would play a big part in keeping the Highlanders at two goals with five crucial saves for the Falcons defense.

With the win, the Falcons move to a record of 4-10-1 overall, and 2-5 in CSAC play. They return to the field on Saturday October 18th as they travel to take on Neumann University at 2pm.
