The Cedar Crest College Volleyball team took time before today's Colonial States Athletic Conference match to recognize two seniors.
Kiersten Collins (Forest City, PA/Forest City Regional) and
Rebecca Grady (Silver Spring, MD/Paint Branch) were honored this morning by head coach
Marie Polzella and the rest of the team.
Set One:Kaylee Martinez (Hemet, CA/West Valley) and
Rebecca Grady (Silver Spring, MD/Paint Branch) led the way for the Falcons in set one. Martinez led the way for the Falcons by way of hard fought digs and hustling for balls hit away from her teammates. Grady led the way in kills adding to her chase for the career record in that category. After a back and forth battle between the Mighty Macs and the Falcons, and seeing Cedar Crest pull within two points at a moment in set one,
Maggie Olock (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty High School) would dive out of bounds and save a kill attempt by the Macs and push the Falcons back in the game and push the score to 22-15. The Macs would push away from the Falcons and claim set one 25-16.
Set Two:Set two say the Macs jump out to a quick 6-1 lead. Tough kills that would slip between the hands of block attempts by Grady and
Celina Danish (Allentown, PA/Lehigh Valley Charter High School for the Arts) would force head coach
Marie Polzella to call a time out at 8-1. After the timeout, the Macs would continue to keep their distance from the Falcons despite Kills from
Ericka Clayton (Zionsville, PA/Allentown Central Catholic) and senior
Kiersten Collins (Forest City, PA/Forest City Regional). With the score now 15-7 favor of the Macs, both teams would continue to fight for points with the score reaching 17-9 in favor of Immaculata. Immaculata would finish off set two going on a 8-1 run to close out the scoring, winning 25-11 and taking a 2-0 lead.
Set Three:After falling behind 4-0 quickly in set three, the Falcons would fight back and tie the set at 4-4 thanks in large part to clutch digs by Olock and Martinez. The Macs would go on a quick 2-0 run, but the Falcons wouldn't quit and once again tie 6-6 before taking their first lead of the match 7-6 thanks to a kill by
Rebecca Grady (Silver Spring, MD/Paint Branch). After two more ties and three lead changes the Macs would take a three point lead at 14-11. The Falcons would go on a 4-2 run to pull within one at 16-15. The run would be short lived for Cedar Crest as they would see the Macs run to 21-15. Despite fighting back and forcing a close set, Immaculata would once again come out on top and take the set 25-19.
