Game two of the 3rd Annual Women's Colleges Basketball Tip-Off Tournament, Cedar Crest College was out gunned by The College of New Rochelle 87-61 to kick off the young 2014-15 season. Three Falcons scored in double figures in the defeat;
Breonna Lewis (Abingdon, MD/Sovereign Grace Homeschool) scored 19 points and pulled down 10 rebounds;
Miranda Schaeffer (Newport, PA/Newport) debuted with 14 points and 8 boards while
Taylor Osley (Allentown, PA/Louis E. Dieruff High School) tallied 10 points.
The College of New Rochelle took a two point lead into the locker room at half time, which was highlighted by great plays by both teams. Despite being out shot by 17, the Falcons had 18 free throw attempts converting eight, and out rebounded the Blue Angles by eight, 25-17 at the break. The Blue Angles drained 8 of 15 three points that gave them the 43-41 edge.
To start the second half, untimely turnover and missed shots, by the Falcons, lead to easy buckets for the Blue Angles who never looked back. Cedar Crest was outscored 44-20 in the second half, shooting 6-26 for 23.1% a stark contrast from the 16-28 (57.1%) shooting in the first half. In the end, the hot three point shooting of the Blue Angles was too much for the Falcons.
Cedar Crest will play Bryn Mawr College, Sunday, November 16th at 1:00 p.m. at Notre Dame of Maryland University for third place.
