Box Score Allentown, PA
Set One:
The Falcons came out strong in set one, while battling back and forth for crucial points, the Falcons found themselves up 14-11 in the early moments of set one. The Ravens of Rosemont would fight back however but the Falcons wouldn't back down continuing to lead 22-20. Costly errors by Raven defenders along with some creative plays from freshman
Kaylee Martinez (Hemet, CA/West Valley) and
Rebecca Grady (Silver Spring, MD/Paint Branch) led to a vital point running the score 23-20. After the Ravens would claim another point the Falcons would close the door thanks again to a Raven error and take set one 25-21.
Â
Set Two:In set two the Falcons would hit a quick bump in the road as the Ravens would use the time in between sets to get fired up. After jumping out to an early 3-0 lead, the Falcons would begin fighting back, going on a 9-1 run and ultimately forcing a 11-6 score. Successful digs by freshman Kaitlyn Keen and
Kaylee Martinez (Hemet, CA/West Valley) led to yet another exciting score for the Falcons and forced the Ravens to take one of their timeouts. That timeout would benefit the Falcons as they would go on a 5-1 run before the Ravens would stop the bleeding at 17-8 in favor of the Falcons.
The Falcons would maintain at minimum a nine point lead the remainder of the game thanks in large part to vital sets by sophomore
Celina Danish (Allentown, PA/Lehigh Valley Charter High School for the Arts) and would claim set two by a score of 25-16.
Â
Set Three:For the first time all season the Falcons went into set three with a 2-0 lead and would keep the energy in Lees Gymnasium high. Continuing to dominate the Falcons found themselves up 9-5 in the third set and on the verge of victory. In typical CSAC fashion the Ravens would not go quietly into the night and would claw back into the set tying the Falcons 10-10. The Ravens would pull out one more point and take the first lead of the third set, forcing Head Coach
Marie Polzella to take a timeout. The next five minutes saw four lead changes, four ties and the Falcons coming out with another lead at 16-15.
Four minutes later
Ericka Clayton (Zionsville, PA/Allentown Central Catholic) would sneak a kill past the Ravens defense and push the score to 20-17 for the Falcons. Costly errors would once again doom the Ravens as the Falcons would fall in a close third set 25-23.
Â
Set Four:Up 2-1, the Falcons would come out and hit a slight skid falling behind the Ravens early. Despite a late rally, led by senior
Rebecca Grady (Silver Spring, MD/Paint Branch), and yet another back and forth battle, the Falcons would drop set four by the close score of 25-21.
Set Five:The deciding set would not go the Falcons way early, falling behind 5-0 early in the fifteen point game. Falcons Head Coach
Marie Polzella would once again have to call a time out and rein in the Falcons. "We weren't communicating and we weren't on the same page" said Polzella, "That timeout really helped us out to finish off that last set". The time out would indeed help the Falcons would go on a 10-5 run to tie the game at 10 apiece. After going up 12-10 the Ravens would pull within one at 12-11 before the Falcons would grab two more points and force the deciding point on Rosemont. Under the pressure the Falcons would come through and claim victory 15-12. The win marking a number of firsts for the Falcons this season including Head Coach
Marie Polzella's first win as a college coach, the first home win for the Falcons in 2014, and the first win for the Falcons this season as well. Up next for the Falcons, they travel to Muhlenberg for a Tri-Match with McDaniel and Muhlenberg on Saturday.
