Box Score

Phoenixville, PA – The Cedar Crest Falcons secured their first win for the season today while on the road against the Valley Forge Christian College Patriots with a whopping 9 goals.

Junior forward Courtney Long (Coopersburg, PA/Southern Lehigh) broke a Cedar Crest soccer record today for most goals in a single contest, as she continued in her scoring ways from last season and slotted a total of six goals (the most ever scored in a single contest at CCC) in the demanding victory over the Patriots. Long got the ball rolling in the 14th minute when she took the Patriot goalkeeper 1v1 to slot it in the lower left corner. Shortly after, Long found the net again in the 18th minute after receiving a through ball from Senior Breonna Lewis (Abingdon, MD/Sovereign Grace Homeschool). Long was still at it in the 28th minute when she connected with a pass played by Allison Rittle (Fredericksburg, PA/Northern Lebanon), which she was easily able to slot home.  The half would end at 3-0.

In the second half, the Falcons continued to dominate possession, as Coach Sarah Wolcott was able to now move players around to give some players a feel for new positions. Long was determined to up her goal tally as she constantly attacked the Patriots goal. She found the net again the 55th and 65th minute both from pristine passes, again from Allison Rittle (Fredericksburg, PA/Northern Lebanon). The goal scorers would change for a short period as Senior Captain, Kimberly Barry pummeled one in the back of the net off of a goal post deflection. Senior Captain Breeona Lewis wasn't satisfied with just an assist, as she found the net shortly after Barry from a beautifully headed ball from Kristen Spencer (Bangor, PA/Pen Argyl Area). Lewis would score again three minutes later as she took on the Patriot goalkeeper 1v1 and neatly slid it by her. Long would wrap up the scoring in the 81st minute, when she was able to run onto a neatly passed ball from Kimberly Incontrera. The game would end at 9-0 in favor of the Falcons.

After the win, Coach Sarah Wolcott said "I was really happy and really proud of our performance today. We had a tough match on Friday, and we bounced back from it really well today. We put together a solid 90 minutes of soccer and had some stand out performances from both our upperclassmen and freshmen, which is really encouraging. Our captains Courtney Long (Coopersburg, PA/Southern Lehigh), Kimberly Barry, and Bree Lewis really embodied their role as captains and lead the team by example. Court did a great job getting forward and taking the backs on. Shaquira Mccottry and Kristen Spencer (Bangor, PA/Pen Argyl Area) had a great showing and did a great job leading our team from the back line. Allison Rittle (Fredericksburg, PA/Northern Lebanon) did a great job connecting play in the midfield. I was really proud of freshmen, Julianne Martone (Hackettstown, NJ/Hackettstown ) and Caitlyn Mann (Harrisburg, PA/Central Dauphin) who put in good, hard work and gutted out some soreness to be major contributors for us today. "

With the win the Falcons record is now 1-1, and they will be looking to continue their winning ways this upcoming weekend as they host Lehman College and the City College of New York in the Cedar Crest Soccer classic at 3pm on Saturday and 2pm on Sunday respectively.
