The Cedar Crest College Basketball team welcomed the Gwynedd Mercy University Griffins to the Lees Gymnasium on Wednesday night. The Falcons would look to stop the Griffins, who were winners of their last five games and who currently sit at the 3
rd overall place in the CSAC Women's Basketball standings. The Falcons who are 2-4 overall currently sit just outside the playoff group in the 7
th overall position.
In the first half, the Falcons would play well above their season average staying with the Griffins for most of the first half. Individually for the Falcons
Breonna Lewis (Abingdon, MD/Sovereign Grace Homeschool) would lead the first half for the Falcons collecting two points and seven rebounds.
DeJanet Lantion (Silver Spring, MD/John F. Kennedy) would be the leading scorer for the Falcons in the first half finishing the first 20 minutes with five points and two offensive rebounds. Coming off the bench
Miranda Schaeffer (Newport, PA/Newport) would add four first half points for the squad while
Taylor Osley (Allentown, PA/Louis E. Dieruff High School) would round out the scoring for the first half with two of her own. As a team the Falcons shot 33.3 % from the field while finishing 66 % from beyond the arc. The Falcons would enter the half down by just 14 points 30-16.
In the second half, the Falcons continued to battle but the pressure from the Griffins would be too much. The Falcons would be limited to just 15 second half points. Individually for the Falcons Lantion would finish with eight points for the Falcons while Schaeffer would add seven individually for the game.
The Falcons fall to 3-12 overall and 2-5 in the CSAC and will be on hiatus until January 24
th when they will welcome the Cairn University Highlanders a team they beat 72-38 on January 5
th of this year.
