ALLENTOWN, Pa.---The Cedar Crest College field hockey team fell in a Colonial States Athletic Conference game to top team Gwynedd Mercy University, 10-0, on Thursday afternoon.
"We had our work cut out for us today, as the Griffins are an established team that is doing well in the conference," commented Head Coach
Kellina Yarrish. "They had a strong offensive attack that we tried our best to keep up with but unfortunetly missed the mark."
In the first half the Falcons were under pressure right away as they scored upon within four minutes. The defense worked extremely hard to keep the Griffins at bay as they got a stick on the ball to block a shot. The second goal came on a penalty stroke that the goalkeeper wasn't able to stop. Cedar Crest held Gwynedd Mercy to a 3-0 lead as they headed into halftime.
In the second half, senior
Emily Rodenberger (Pennsburg, PA/Upper Perkiomen) fired off two shots the first in the 39th minute in front of the goal as the goalkeeper made the save. The second was in the 65th minute that was hard shot that the goalkeeper made the stop to keep the shutout.
The field hockey team gets back into Colonial State Athletic Conference action on Saturday, October 17 at 2:00 p.m. as they take on Marywood University.
