Soccer Drops Tough Double Overtime Match to Neumann

ALLENTOWN, Pa.---The Cedar Crest College soccer team fell in a hard faught Colonial States Athletic Conference double overtime match that ended with the final score of, 6-5, in favor of the opponent Neumann Univeristy on Saturday afternoon.

Senior forward Courtney Long (Coopersburg, PA/Southern Lehigh) struck first scoring in the 13th minute for the Falcons. Long would net two back-to-back goals in a 40 second time period for Cedar Crest, the first was off ball played in by sophomore defender Julianne Martone (Hackettstown, NJ/Hackettstown ) who played a ball in from just infront of the halfway line. The second goal was played in by sophomore midfielder Jackalyn Beckett who crossed the ball in for Long to finish for the hattrick before halftime. The team would take a 3-2 lead before the break.

Long would net her fourth goal of the match with the assist going to junior midfielder Allison Rittle (Fredericksburg, PA/Northern Lebanon) taking a 4-2 lead in the 47th minute. The teams going goal-for-goal this half as the Knights took the lead in the 80th minute but in the 84 minute freshman midfielder Kassandra Miller (Fallington, Pa./Pensbury Senior High School) played a ball in to the box and Beckett was there to guide it into the back of the net in the 84th minute forcing overtime as the score was tied 5-5 after 90 minutes of regulation play.

In overtime, only two shots were taken, one by each team both sailing wide. Long had one shot in the second half, but missed wide and in the fifth minute the Knights hit the golden goal ending the match, 6-5.

The Falcons return to action on Tuesday, October, 24 at 4:00 p.m. as they host Cabrini College.
