ALLENTOWN, Pa.---The Cedar Crest College team faced Summit University of Pennsylvania in a Colonial States Athletic Conference match-up on Wednesday afternoon with the final score of, 3-1, in favor of the Defenders.
"It is always hard to battle back after a team jumps out to lead, Summit out worked us and earned the win today," commented Head Coach
Sarah Wolcott. "It was a game for us to go out and win, but we had a bit of a set back today. To have our players keep fighting despite playing down a person, and to still get a goal in the second half by Courtney was nice to see."
In the first half the visiting team took a 2-0 lead that they carried into halftime, despite the Falcons coming out aggressive firing off four shots in the first five minutes of the match. Senior forward
Courtney Long (Coopersburg, PA/Southern Lehigh) hit a power shot that hit off the crossbar for junior midfielder
Kim Incontrera (Staten Island, N.Y./Susan E. Wagner) to finish but missed high.
In the second half the Defenders took a 3-0 lead in the 63
rd minute. With a nice split ball played between the defenders by sophomore defender
Julianne Martone (Hackettstown, NJ/Hackettstown ),
Long was able to take one touch to put the ball in the back of the net to make it a 3-1 game in the 86
th minute.
The Falcons get back on the pitch on Saturday, October 10 at 1:00 p.m. against Immaculata University at home.
