Coming into tonight's game, the Cedar Crest College Basketball team had earned two impressive wins at home, both against CSAC opponents Baptist Bible and Cairn and the Falcons were looking for number three. Â Coming into tonight's contest, the Falcons currently sat at 4-10 in the CSAC while the Notre Dame of Maryland Gators at 2-11. Â Cedar Crest, who are 2-2 in their last four games looked to continue their strong second half in their final home game of the 2014-2015 season. Â
In the first half the Falcons and Gators would battle back and forth with Cedar Crest holding the biggest lead of seven with 6:29 left in the first twenty minutes. Â
Taylor Osley (Allentown, PA/Louis E. Dieruff High School) paced the Falcons in the first period scoring 10 first half points while also dishing out three assists in 17 minutes. Â Starter
Kayleigh Keggan (Blairstown, NJ/Belvidere) would add six in the same playing time while
Breonna Lewis (Abingdon, MD/Sovereign Grace Homeschool) would add five and
Meghan Gregory (Buckhorn, NM/Cliff High School) would contribute four first half points. Â As a team the Falcons shot a season high seventy five percent from three point range thanks to Keggan and Osley, and would finish with thirty one percent from the remainder of the field. Â The Falcons would add eight points in the paint, three off of turnovers, three second chance points and the bench would contribute four first half points. Â
For the Gators in the first half, nearly three players would finish with double digit points as Allyson Whitacre and Naimani Staley would both finish with nine first half points and Stephanie Roche would add seven for the Gators. Â The Gators would enter the half up by just two over the Falcons 31-29.
In the second half, senior
Breonna Lewis (Abingdon, MD/Sovereign Grace Homeschool) would step in a big way for the Falcons adding 15 second half points. Â As the second half started the Falcons would battle back and forth once again with the Gators as unlike the first half the lead would only change twice between the two teams. Â But as one team would score and go up by two the other would bounce back and tie. Â This type of situation would happen three more times before the final buzzer would sound. Â Despite shooting just 25.9 percent from the field in the second half, the Falcons would hang with the Gators until the last minute when Notre Dame would pull away by three claiming victory over Cedar Crest College 57-54.
For the Falcons, three Falcons would score in double-digits including
Breonna Lewis (Abingdon, MD/Sovereign Grace Homeschool)'s 20 points,
Taylor Osley (Allentown, PA/Louis E. Dieruff High School)'s 12 and
Kayleigh Keggan (Blairstown, NJ/Belvidere)'s 10. Â On the boards,
Shemeca Thompson (Bridgeport, CT/Warren Harding) would add nine rebounds, all defensive while Lewis would add three offensive and four offensive for seven on the night. Â The Falcons now fall to 5-18 overall and 4-11 in the CSAC. Â The Falcons will be off until the 14th when they travel to Gwynedd-Mercy University to take on the Griffins. Â Game time is scheduled to begin at 2pm.
