Heading into today's CSAC contest against the Cabrini Cavaliers, the Cedar Crest College Basketball team had made up some ground in the CSAC Women's Basketball standings. Â After downing the Baptist Bible Defenders 57-48 on Wednesday and the Cairn Highlanders 58-40 on Friday, the Falcons currently sat in ninth overall. Â The Falcons would then put their win streak on the line as they welcomed CSAC conference leader and current undefeated team Cabrini to campus. Â Cabrini who entered Saturday's contest on a 12 game winning streak would look to continue their winning ways against the Falcons.
In the first half the Falcons would keep the Cavaliers within sight until six minutes into the first half when Cabrini would let the long range three pointers fly. Â The Cavs would collect 18 points alone in the first half from three pointers. Â For the Falcons senior
Breonna Lewis (Abingdon, MD/Sovereign Grace Homeschool) once again led the way collecting six first half points, two rebounds and two steals in 13 minutes. Â
Shemeca Thompson (Bridgeport, CT/Warren Harding) would add three points and four rebounds while
Denyell Spingola (East Haddam, CT/Nathan Hale-Ray) and
Taylor Osley (Allentown, PA/Louis E. Dieruff High School) each chipped in three for the first half. Â
Meghan Gregory (Buckhorn, NM/Cliff High School) would round out the scoring for the Falcons adding two first half points. Â As a team, the Falcons shot 26% from the field and 50% from both three point range and from the free throw line. Â The Falcons would add eight points in the pain, three off of turnovers and five second chance points in route to heading into half time down 46-17.
The second half would spell more of the same for Cedar Crest as Cabrini continued to push the pace and produce costly CCC turnovers. Â The Falcons offense however would find their second wind in the last 20 minutes and propel them to score 23 second half points led by Lewis's 11. Â The Falcons would shoot 82% from the free throw line in the second half bumping their game average up to 71%.
For the game, theFalcons would fall 83-40 but would be led by
Breonna Lewis (Abingdon, MD/Sovereign Grace Homeschool)' 17 total points, while
Shemeca Thompson (Bridgeport, CT/Warren Harding) would come off the bench to add 10 points and 11 rebounds for her first double-double of the season. Â Guard
Taylor Osley (Allentown, PA/Louis E. Dieruff High School) would add six points for the game, while
Denyell Spingola (East Haddam, CT/Nathan Hale-Ray) would add three and
Meghan Gregory (Buckhorn, NM/Cliff High School) and
Miranda Schaeffer (Newport, PA/Newport) would both add two to round out the scoring. Â The Falcons now sit at 4-9 in the CSAC and will have a day off before welcoming Keystone College on Monday for another CSAC showdown. Â Game time is scheduled to begin at 7 pm.
