Falcons Wrap up 2015 Season with Split

Allentown, PA

On a beautiful Saturday afternoon, the Cedar Crest College Softball team would host fellow Colonial States Athletic Conference member Gwynedd Mercy in the last regular season double-header of 2015.

In game on, the Falcons and Griffins would trade blows early with the Griffins collecting two early runs in the first.  Lily Acosta (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty High School) and Kaylee Martinez (Hemet, CA/West Valley) would be responsible for the Falcons first run of the game with a infield single from Martinez scoring Acosta from third.

The Griffins would add three more in the second due to a couple errors by the Falcons defense.

The Falcons would answer right back with a Rachel Stump (Fleetwood, PA/Fleetwood) double to left field scoring Olivia Lopez (Brandywine, MD/Gwynn Park High School) from second base and trimming the Griffins lead to three.  The two teams would play a scoreless third inning before the Griffins would send one deep.  With one on, the Griffins Ballerino would send a deep home run to left field scoring Mowen in the process.

After a scoreless Falcon 4th and Griffins 5th, Martinez and Acosta would get back to their old ways with a Martinez triple scoring Acosta from first.  With the score 7-3 the Griffins would add one more run in the sixth.

The Falcons would then throw the rally cap on for the second time in 24 hours.

With the bases loaded Martinez would get hit by the pitch, scoring Stump from third.  Molly Schnaubelt (San Diego, CA/University City) would then step in and single home Acosta from third.  Alexis Baxter (Clifton Springs, NY/Phelps-Clifton Springs) would then climb in a single to left field scoring Martinez from third.  With the lead 8-6, the Falcons would send pitcher April Daly (Burlington, NJ/Holy Cross High School) to the plate.  After a five minute battle between the two pitchers, Daly would force the walk and score Schnaubelt from third to trim the lead to 8-7.  Rachel Stump (Fleetwood, PA/Fleetwood) would then climb in.  Stump who had been hitting the ball all over the field all day swing a bit early and ground out to the pitcher to wrap up game one falling to the Griffins 8-7.

In game two the Falcons looked to keep the pressure on Gwynedd Mercy.

After surrendering one run in the top of the first the Falcons would go to work.  With Gallagher on first, Kaylee Martinez (Hemet, CA/West Valley) would take the GMU pitcher deep for her fourth home run of the season.  The Griffins would respond with a solo home run in the top half of the second to tie the game at 2-2.

In the third Alexis Baxter (Clifton Springs, NY/Phelps-Clifton Springs) would put the Falcons on top with a single to left field, scoring Schnaubelt.  Ciara Lane (Northampton, PA/Northampton Area) would then climb in and single home Amanda Kustanbauter (Muncy, PA/Muncy High School).  Rachel Stump (Fleetwood, PA/Fleetwood) would round out the inning with a 2 RBI single to right scoring both Olivia Lopez (Brandywine, MD/Gwynn Park High School) and Baxter.

With the score 6-2 the Griffins would once again begin to claw back adding one run in the top half of the fourth and two more in the top of the fifth.

With the Cedar Crest lead down to just one, the game would fall on Schnabuelt's shoulders.  She would deliver in a big way with a 2 RBI single to center, scoring first Acosta and then Gallagher.

Pitcher Amanda Kustanbauter (Muncy, PA/Muncy High School) would then toe the rubber in the seventh with a 8-7 lead, and despite allowing a runner to reach third with one out, would close out the season and the game with a one run win.
