Box Score BETHLEHEM, Pa. ---The Cedar Crest College field hockey team took a short trip to Bethlehem, Pa. to play non-conference Moravian College with a score of 10-0 the Falcons fell Wednesday afternoon.
"I'm pleased with the minor improvements we've been seeing each game," commented Head Coach
Kellina Yarrish. "It is nice to see the girls hard work in practice of the fundamental and technical skills, are transferring into games. Offensively, we were able to make some good movement up the field and find ourselves in the circle more than we have in previous games. Defensively, we had some amazing defensive saves that really sparked some motivation for the team when we really needed it."
In the first half the Falcons held the Greyhounds at bay for 21 minutes with a strong defensive presence having 10 saves total and two of those being defensive saves by junior defenders
Rachel Stump (Fleetwood, PA/Fleetwood) and
Selena Contreras (Catasauqua, PA/Catasauqua). As Stump was the only shot in the first half that went just wide to the right side of the cage. Moravian held a 4-0 lead heading into halftime.
In the second half Cedar Crest came out with a stronger offensive attack having back-to-back shots by junior midfielder
Priscilla Howell (Stewartsville, N.J.) which was saved by the goalkeeper to have senior forwardÂ
Emily Rodenberger (Pennsburg, PA/Upper Perkiomen) rip her shot too far to the left within the first minute of the second half.
Rodenberger would get four more shots off in the half with another missing wide and the other three being saved. Junior midfielders
Samantha VanBeers (Warwick, NY/Warwick Valley) and
Taylor Osley (Allentown, PA/Louis E. Dieruff High School) both looked to get the Falcons on the scoreboard, but both of their shots were saved by the goalie.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Andi Dargis (East Hampton, NY/East Hampton) ended the game with 15 saves, one of which coming from stopping a penalty shot late in the second half.
