ALLENTOWN, Pa.--- The Cedar Crest College basketball team began the 2016 portion of the season with a home game against Colonial State Athletic Conference opponent Notre Dame of Maryland University as the Gators edged out the Falcons, 66-47, on Tuesday afternoon.
"After coming back from a long break, I expected a few missed opportunities," commented Head Coach
Ty Taylor. "We kept things close early on as Tenille and Kayleigh hit big three pointers for us late in the game to bring it within 10 but we need to play more consistent to not relay on coming back late in games."
After five minutes in the first quarter the teams were tied 3-3, but by the end of the first the Gators would lead by five. Leading into the second half the Falcons would trail the rest of the game as freshman guard
Tenille Stewart (Pennsauken, NJ/Pennsauken) had a career high of 25 points, going 9-of-11 from the free throw ling, six rebounds, four assists and two steals.
Senior forward
Kayleigh Keggan (Blairstown, NJ/Belvidere) put up 13 points, 5-of-8 from the floor and scoring 3-of-5 from behind the three point line and pulling down three rebounds. Junior guard
Taylor Osley (Allentown, PA/Louis E. Dieruff High School) tossed in eight points on the afternoon with four rebounds, three assists and two steals while sophomore forward
Shemeca Thompson (Bridgeport, CT/Warren Harding) brought down a team high of 11 rebounds.
The next game for the basketball team is on Thursday, January 7 with tip-off slated for 7:00 p.m. at Keystone College in another Colonial State Athletic Conference match up.
