Field Hockey Falls in CSAC Play

IMMACULATA, Pa. - The Cedar Crest College field hockey team was defeated 3-1 by the Immaculata Mighty Macs on Saturday afternoon. 

"I'm so proud of the way the girls played today. They fought hard until the end," Head Coach Kellina Yarrish said. "We are so proud of the way our season has progressed."

The Falcons and Mighty Macs were evenly matched until the 13th minute of play when Immaculata took the lead 1-0. Senior Samantha VanBeers (Warwick, NY/Warwick Valley) looked to tie the game, but missed just wide of the goal. Freshman Makenzie Kistler (Walnutport, Pa./Northampton) also took a shot, but it was saved by the Mighty Macs' defense. Going into half time, the score remained 1-0 with freshman goal keeper Cassandra Reijgers (Hollis, NH/Hollis Brookline) tallying six saves for the Falcons. 

In the 44th minute of play, Immaculata found the back of the net again, making the score 2-0. Freshman McKenna Hunt (Nazareth, Pa./Pen Argyl) looked to put one on the board for the Falcons, but missed wide of the goal. The Mighty Macs took the ball into the defensive end for the Falcons and scored, widening their lead 3-0. In the 62nd minute of the game, VanBeers took a shot, but was saved by the Immmaculata goalie. Off of the deflected save, Hunt passed to VanBeers, who shot past the Mighty Macs goalie and scored one for the Falcons. The final score was 3-1. Freshman goal keeper Emma Ryan (Sterling, Va./Park View) had one save for Cedar Crest in the second half.

The next game for the Falcons will be in Gwynedd Valley, Pa. against CSAC-foe Gwynedd Mercy University. The game is set to begin at 6:00 PM on October 25.
