BROOKLYN, N.Y.---The Cedar Crest College basketball team improved to 2-0 with a 66-61 win over non-conference Medgar Evers College on Saturday afternoon.
The first quarter saw the Falcons trailing by two points, but would hold the advantage the rest of the game as four player were in double digits. The Falcons took an early lead in the first quarter before the Cougars took the lead for the quarter. A three pointer by freshman guard
Sylera Weller (Lancaster, Pa./J.P . McCaskey), who had a team-high of 21 points on the night, gave the Black and Yellow the boost they needed to take back the lead at the start of the second quarter. They would head into halftime with a five point lead, 30-25.
Cedar Crest held a slight lead after the third quarter, but would see the score change hands in favor of the home team once more before the end of the game. Medgar Ever tied the game early in the fourth quarter, then consistently held a six point lead. Freshman forward
Sienne Kemmerer (Columbia, Pa./JP McCaskey ), who had her first career double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds, hit five crucial free throws to help the team cut the deficit.
Sophomore guard
Tenille Stewart (Pennsauken, NJ/Pennsauken) hit back-to-back three pointers bringing the game within one point and then tying the game.
Weller knocked down a three to take back the lead with just over a minute to play.
Stewart made it a five point game after being a perfect four-for-four from the free throw line to end the game.
The next game for the Falcons is their home opener as they welcome non-conference Wilson College on Tuesday, November 22 with tip-off slated for 7:00 p.m.
