ALLENTOWN, Pa.--- The Cedar Crest College basketball team lost to non-conference University of Valley Forge, 67-41, on Thursday evening in Lees Gymnasium.
The first quarter saw the Falcons keeping close and going point-for-point with the Patriots, with freshman guard
Tenille Stewart (Pennsauken, NJ/Pennsauken) scoring the first two points of the game to trail by one. Freshman guard/forward
Rianna Kinard (Clinton, MD/Surrattsville High) tied the game with less than six minutes to play at five. Junior guard
Taylor Osley (Allentown, PA/Louis E. Dieruff High School) hit a three pointer with 18 seconds left in the quarter to end the first 12-11 in favor of the visitor.
The first four minutes of the second quarter ranged with each team matching points until under the three minute mark, when the Falcons were down by eight as
Osley hit a three pointer to make it a five point game.
Kinard brought it within six banking a jumper, and senior
Kayleigh Keggan (Blairstown, NJ/Belvidere) made a free throw to head into halftime trailing by five.
The third quarter started with
Stewart hitting a jumper that had the Falcons within three but the Patriots took an extended lead to end the quarter leading by 18. The fourth quarter wasn't without fight but the deficit was too much to cut the lead falling, 67-41.
Osley finished with 13 points, one rebound, three assists and two steals while
Stewart finished with 11 points, two rebounds, two assists and one steal.
Kinard tossed in seven points, had five rebounds and one assist as
Keggan had four points, four rebounds and two assists on the night. Sophomore forward
Shemeca Thompson (Bridgeport, CT/Warren Harding), freshman forward
Katherina Pierre (Middletown, NY /John S. Burke Catholic) and freshman forward
Jaime Matson (West Milford, NJ /West Milford) all score two points.
Thompson had eight rebounds, one assist, two blocks and one steal,
Pierre and
Matson both brought down four rebounds a peice.
The Cedar Crest basketball team will travel to Notre Dame of Maryland University for a 2:30 p.m. tip-off on Saturday, February 6 in a Colonial States Athletic Conference game.
