Field Hockey Tops Sweet Briar

Box Score SWEET BRIAR, Va.---The Cedar Crest College field hockey team earned their second win of the season improving to 2-1 overall by defeating non-conference Sweet Briar College, 8-0 ,on Sunday afternoon.

The Falcons jumped out to an early lead with senior forward Samantha VanBeers (Warwick, NY/Warwick Valley) scored the first goal in the second minute of the game. A penalty corner taken by freshman Rachel Betchel got the next offensive attack going for the team, she played the ball in which was later brought back to Betchel for the goal at 6:59 with the assist from freshman forward McKenna Hunt (Nazareth, Pa./Pen Argyl). Hunt looked for the next goal but was stopped by the goalie but junior midfielder Elizabeth Lamm (Schnecksville, Pa./Parkland) was there to finish the play for her third goal of the year to put Cedar Crest up 3-0. Freshman midfielder Jennie Fritz (Walnutport, Pa./Northern Lehigh) scored her first colligate goal as she followed up a shot by junior midfielder Hannah Gouck (Kintnersville, PA/Palisades) in the 26th minute. Hunt would find the back of the cage in the 32nd minute to give the Falcons a 5-0 lead heading into halftime.

In the second half, Gouck would attempt to earn another goal for the team but the goalie saved it, but VanBeers was there for the rebound to score her second goal of the game. VanBeers would earn a hat-trick scoring her third goal just minutes later on a penalty corner with the assist from freshman Madison Bowen ( Mechanicsburg, Pa./Mechanicsburg Area Senior). Freshman Mackenzie Kistler earned her first goal of the season as her goal came in the 46th minute of play with the assist from freshman defender Alexx Miller (Mechanicsburg, Pa/Mechanicsburg Area).

The next game for the Falcons is on Saturday, September 17 at 2:00 p.m. as they welcome Bay Path College to Allentown.
