Box Score ALLENTOWN, Pa.---The Cedar Crest College volleyball team improved to .500 this season after defeating non-conference University of Valley Forge in three sets with scores of 25-16, 25-23 and 25-22 on Tuesday night in Lees Gymnasium.
In the first set the teams went point-for-point as freshman middle hitter
Nicole Hill (Parsippany, NJ/Parsippany) found the ball for a kill to take an 8-4 lead. Junior middle hitter
Molly Schnaubelt (San Diego, CA/University City)Â followed up with the next three points for the Falcons to take a 12-7 lead. Seniors outside hitter
Maggie Olock (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty High School) and setter/outside hitter
Celina Danish (Allentown, PA/Lehigh Valley Charter High School for the Arts) both added points before
Schnaubelt earned the final three points of the set.
In the second set the teams would start a battle for points with errors being the main cause, Cedar Crest would rally late whenÂ
Hill stepped up for an attack to earn the point for the Black and Yellow, she would follow up with a key block. Freshman outside hitter
Breanna Fields (Candor, N.Y./Candor Central) would serve up a ball that couldn't be returned to end the set.
The third set saw the opponent take an early 7-4 lead until the Falcons started matching them point-for-point. The Patriots would again extend the lead by six, but
Hill and
Olock would connect on attacks to bring the Falcons within two points.
Schnaubelt and
Fields helped regain the lead 20-18 and the final point came from
Hill to earn the teams third win of the season.
Schnaubelt led with a team high of nine kills, one service ace and three digs while
Hill had eight kills and three blocks.
Fields led the team in digs with 15, two service aces, one assist and two kills as teammate freshman libero
Jacey Ludham had 12 digs and one service ace.
Olock added six kills, one assist and eight digs while freshman setter/outside hitter
Steph Barr (Unionville, CT/Sport and Medical Sciences Academy) paced the team with 22 assists, 11 digs and one kill.
The next match for the Falcons is on Saturday, September 17 as the travel to Marywood for a tri-match with the first match slated for a 1:00 p.m. start against host school to play again at 3:00 p.m. against Pratt Institute.
