Box Score ALLENTOWN, Pa - The Cedar Crest College Field Hockey team beat the Bay Path College Wildcats 8-0 in a non-conference match on Saturday afternoon.
"I was extremely pleased with the intensity the team came out with today," stated Head Coach Kellina Yarrish. "We are working together quite well with stringing togehter great passes and attacking as a unit."
The Falcons started the game strong as freshman Alexx Miller (Mechanicsburg, Pa/Mechanicsburg Area) scored off of a corner assisted by freshman Rachel Bechtel (Temple, Pa./Berks Catholic) in the first minute of play, giving Cedar Crest the lead of 1-0. Bechtel took the next shot, missing just wide of the goal. Two shots were taken by Bath Path, both saved by freshman goalkeeper, Emma Ryan (Sterling, Va./Park View). Senior Samantha VanBeers (Warwick, NY/Warwick Valley) looked to score off of a corner, but was stopped by Bay Path's goalie. After multiple corners, Miller netted another goal, assisted off of a corner by senior Rachel Stump (Fleetwood, PA/Fleetwood) making the score 2-0. Freshman McKenna Hunt (Nazareth, Pa./Pen Argyl) looked for the opportunity to score, but was stopped short by the Wildcats' goalie. Off of a corner and assisted by Bechtel, freshman midfielder Madison Bowen ( Mechanicsburg, Pa./Mechanicsburg Area Senior) put one in the back of the net putting the Falcons up 3-0 in the 22nd minute of play. The Falcons rallied off shots with Stump taking three, Hunt taking two, and freshman Mackenzie Kistler taking one. Ryan tallied four saves to end the first half.
In the second half Hunt scored her first goal giving the Falcons a good lead, 4-0. VanBeers looked to get her first goal of the game, but was saved by the Wildcats' goalie. Junior Elizabeth Lamm (Schnecksville, Pa./Parkland) took a shot off the rebound of VanBeers', but shot just high of the goal. Freshman Elyssa Rodriguez (York, Pa./York County School of Technology ) was the next Falcon to get on the scoreboard after scoring an unassisted goal, making the score 5-0. Lamm, Hannah Gouck (Kintnersville, PA/Palisades), and Rodriguez all tallied shots for the Falcons. Bechtel scored the next goal off an assist by Hunt, giving Cedar Crest an ample lead of 6-0. Hunt scored the next two goals with Bechtel returning the assist for one goal, as she placed her second goal in the back of the net, making the score 7-0. Hunt scored the eighth and final goal of the game. Freshman goalkeeper Cassandra Reijgers (Hollis, NH/Hollis Brookline) tallied one save for the Falcons.
The next game for Cedar Crest will be on Tuesday, September 20 at Albright College with the game slated to begin at 4:00 P.M.
