Falcons Drop Road CSAC Match

Box Score IMMACULATA, Pa.---The Cedar Crest College volleyball team traveled to Immaculata University on Thursday evening for a Colonial States Athletic Conference match-up. The Falcons fell in three sets by scores of 25-13, 25-18, and 25-23.

The Falcons had a tough start, unable to string more than two points in a row the team dropped the first set. They began the second set seven points behind, but slowly came back by forcing errors. They went on a rally that started with freshman rightside/middle hitter Elyse Podgurski (Randolph, N.J./Randolph) earning the serve back with a kill. Next, freshman setter Devyn Crowder (Aston, Pa./Sun Valley) went on the attack, and the next point was from an attacking error due to Podgurski and sophomore setter/rightside hitter Steph Barr (Unionville, CT/Sport and Medical Sciences Academy) showing a block. Later, three kills from sophomore middle hitter Nicole Hill (Parsippany, NJ/Parsippany), and a service ace tied the game at 17. Cedar Crest earned their final point of the match on a home team error.

The third set saw the Black and Yellow match their opponent point-for-point. Hill and outside hitter Kailey Elrod (Annville, Pa./Palmyra Area) both knocked down kills to tie the set 7-7. With a service ace from Barr the Falcons took the lead for the first time, 11-8. With the game tied at 11, Cedar Crest took the lead again with two service aces by Elrod and a kill from Podgurski going up 16-11. Barr would set Hill up for a kill, and a service ace by Crowder gave the team a 19-16 edge. Barr gave the team the 20th point while an attack error gave the Falcons the lead 21-17. Immaculata came back to regain the lead 22-21, despite earning to more points Cedar Crest was unable to upset the home team falling, 25-23.

Next up, the Falcons return home for another CSAC match, this time against Notre Dame of Maryland on Saturday, October 21 starting at noon in Lees Gymnasium.
