Box Score CLARKS SUMMIT, Pa.---The Cedar Crest College volleyball extended their wins this season to 16 by defeating Clarks Summit University in three sets by scores of 25-13, 25-14, and 25-19 on Tuesday night.
The Falcons hopped out to a 4-1 lead early on in the first set, but went on an eight point rally to extent the lead later on. The eight points came on the attack of freshman hitter
Elyse Podgurski (Randolph, N.J./Randolph) who had three kills, sophomore setter/hitter
Steph Barr (Unionville, CT/Sport and Medical Sciences Academy) who added one kill, and sophomore middle hitter
Nicole Hill (Parsippany, NJ/Parsippany) who added a service ace to extend the lead 16-5.
Podgurski tacked on three more kills taking the Falcons within five points of the first set, 20-6. Error from the Defenders put Cedar Crest within one point of the taking the set, senior outside hitter
Molly Schnaubelt (San Diego, CA/University City) knocked down the final point.
The second set was a scramble in the beginning for points, freshman defensive specialist
Tiffany Hoppes (Macungie, Pa./Emmaus) took advantage of two errors of the home team while serving up two aces to give the Falcons a 14-9 lead.
Schnaubelt had a kill, and a service ace while
Hill added a kill to put the team up 22-11. Freshman setter
Devyn Crowder (Aston, Pa./Sun Valley) and
Podgurski had the last kills for the Black and Yellow for a 25-14 win in set two.
In the third set, the host team went up 8-2 early in the set,
Hill earned a kill that followed three errors to put the Falcons behind by two, 8-6. The team would battle for points, down 12-8,
Hill earned the serve back with a kill, as
Schnaubelt put it to good use adding two service aces right away to trail by one, 11-12.
Podgurski and
Crowder both tacked on a kill in the rally with the final point of the run being an error the Falcons took the lead, 14-12. The team took a six point lead, 20-14, with two service aces by
Barr, and two kills by freshman hitter
Kailey Elrod (Annville, Pa./Palmyra Area). The Falcons took the next rally within one point to win the set,
Podgurski and
Crowder both earned kills, and the combined to force an attack error with a block.
Schnaubelt had the final point again, taking a set from
Crowder and finding the perfect spot for a kill.
The next match for the volleyball team is on Saturday, October 28 at 11:00 a.m. in Lees Gymnasium as the team celebrates Senior Day.
